Free T3 measures the unbound fraction of triiodothyronine circulating in blood. T3 is one of the principal thyroid hormones and has important effects on metabolism, heart rate, temperature regulation and energy use.
FT3 is generally interpreted together with TSH and Free T4. It is particularly useful in selected patients with suspected hyperthyroidism when T3 concentrations may rise disproportionately.
